If The Magi Were So Bad Why Did God Actually Use Them?
by minimus ini never understood this.
they could've told herod where the baby jesus was but refused.
if they were satan's tool, they would've been thrilled to give the report..

How can a JW say that?
by TD in--that's a question i keep coming back to.
it's probably a "human nature" question more than anything else, but perhaps someone who was a full-fledged jw (unlike myself) can explain it.
virtually the entire jw belief system, even their name, revolves around their public ministry and this ministry is based on certain ideas and premises:.

One word-cult. Two words-mind control. Most witnesses feel contradictions in what they are taught, but they are very good at stuffing them away (cognitive dissonance).
Once they get a person to believe that they can live forever on a paradise earth if they follow the Bible's (gov. body's) guidelines, they are hooked. Thoughts surface that they don't really agree with certain teachings, but they go along to make sure they get to that paradise.
It is when the they run out of room to stuff their objections that they wake up. That is why I think a person has to be ready to wake up. You can tell them things that don't make sense about their religion, but if they can't let loose of that paradise hope, they will continue to stuff away.
A well placed thought, on occasion, can speed up the process, but you can't force anyone to give up their cherished hopes.

LOL@ yellow. I'm afraid I would look crazy too. I don't even know how to find out if you win. I've never thought buying lottery tickets was wrong. It is your money.

You would only be considered DA'd if you did something that jws don't allow and the elders find out about it. Like joining the army, celebrating holidays, living with your boy/girl friend, and on and on.
Some have been DA'd without even knowing it was announced. If you keep a low profile, you can fly below the radar. Good luck!

Peanut butter is on the list, with a Hershey's kiss in the middle of each cookie. Pecan snowballs, cutout iced sugar cookies and a no bake one called Chocolate Christmas Treats that I found in the local paper.
I can't have a tree, but they can't stop me from baking cookies. I will definitely be sharing. Nobody seems to mind that.

What does nicotine feel like?
by Elsewhere ini have never smoked or used any tobacco products aside from puffing on a cigar a few times (maybe 5 times in my life).
even with the few cigar experiences (which i did not enjoy much) i never noticed any real "feeling" from the tobacco.
what is it supposed to feel like?

I asked the same question a while back to a friend. They said smoking calmed them down. I only smoked once and it made me sick. It was never very attractive to me.
Nicotine actually stimulates the dopamine receptors in the brain, which is your pleasure chemical. It is a socially acceptable drug, but a drug non-the-less. I don't think smoking is morally wrong, but I have watched a lot of people live such a limited life from emphysema (or die) that I have no desire to smoke.
Besides, it costs a small fortune these days.

Posting links to downloads of R. Franz' books CoC & ISoCF
by Lady Lee inrecently i removed a link to a copy of ray franz's book crisis of conscience.
it has been and continues to be the policy of jwd/jwn to not post download links to this book unless they are from http://www.commentarypress.com, ray franz' publishing company.. i wrote ray about the illegal posting of his work on the internet and have received a reply from him this morning.
i won't quote his entire email but will use the pertaining parts.

I'm glad you removed the link. He deserves his due. His book gave me too many "aha" moments to count. Just to know the society goes on a 2/3 majority vote is priceless. He gave us that information.
Thanks, Ray.

Respected Jehovah's Witness groomed and molested young girls over years
by Simon inhttp://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/respected-jehovahs-witness-groomed-and.5911846.jp.
a respected jehovah's witness who served as an elder betrayed the trust placed in him by abusing young girls.. james michael o'brien followed one schoolgirl into a kitchen when she was alone away from adults making tea at meetings he was hosting.. .
he pulled her towards him, sexually assaulted her and began to kiss her.. .

Sounds like the reason that they discontinued meetings in homes may be because of cases like this one. I know that molestation happens in a lot of groups, but the way they bury it and pretend it will go away gives perverts years to reoffend.
The two witness rule has to be one of the most shocking ideas they have ever come up with. Children are expendable to them.

Brought in through a friend of a friend at a vulnerable time of my life. I was an idealistic teenager.
"The blue bomb"-that's funny. The book was cheap, but the price payed was high, as you say.
